Appropriate is one of my children's favorite words. Of course they learned it from me, because so often when I say no to something, and they ask for an explanation, I answer, because it's inappropriate.
But there is something about the word that really appeals to them; they use it frequently, savoring the sound of each syllable as they ask, "Is this a-PPRO-priate?"
Last night Sarah asked David, "Why do so many rock stars engage in inappropriate behavior?" She went on to clarify: "Like Avril Lavigne, she wears clothes that expose her NOVEL!"
This totally validated my efforts to limit her exposure to the full spectrum of pop culture.
